Musings From the Front Lines: CCCSC meeting 10/27/25
In more than 5 years of attending commission meetings this particular session was the most focused and mission driven meeting that we’ve had. With a focus on the GHG inventory, waste reduction and clean transportation there was a focus on climate emissions reductions and mitigations that has frankly been lacking at times. Two important data points that jumped out during the waste reduction agenda item were that the Recycle Smart food waste to energy program, in conjunction with Port of Oakland, generated enough power for 59 homes in 2024 and Keller Landfill within the County captures approximately 80% of biogas (CH4) for biogeneration. We also received CCCAP presentation from the Clean Transportation Network focused on prioritizing expansion of bicycle, micromobility, and pedestrian infrastructure.
